Tenus B. Thorson, 93, of Houston died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wis., following a brief illness.

He was born on July 10, 1920, in Yucatan Valley of Houston County to Theodore and Bertha (Karlsbroaten) Thorson. He was raised in Yucatan Valley and graduated from Houston High School in 1939.

In 1940, Tenus moved to California where he worked for the U.S. Department of Defense building airplanes. He served in the U.S. Army in 1946 and 1947.

After his service in the military, Tenus moved to the home farm in Houston Township to farm with his father.

On March 15, 1952, Tenus was united in marriage with Lola Myhre of Spring Grove at Wilmington Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Following their marriage, the couple took over the family farm, where he lived the remainder of his life.

Farming was his life and his passion. Tenus was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lola; his special adopted daughter, Twyla Thorson of Houston; a sister, Bernice (Dr. George) Lemon of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Betty Thorson of Houston; and by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tenart and his wife, Mildred, Berdeen and his wife, June, and Ole; and by a sister, Gladys Newman and her husband, Jerry.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 17, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery, in rural Houston with military honors by the Arnet - Sheldon American Legion Post.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
