State Representative Greg Davids (R-Preston) attended a special legislative session on Aug. 24 to help bring much-needed relief to areas of Minnesota devastated by flooding and storms earlier this summer.

"I saw much of the damage first hand in Duluth and the surrounding areas," Davids said.

"Many homes and businesses were severely damaged by floods and strong winds, so it was important for the Legislature to step up and provide some needed assistance.

"Several parts of our state experienced heavy rains and winds in June and early July, resulting in catastrophic damage and disruption in service."

The funding provided by the Minnesota Legislature will help these communities, businesses and families rebuild and recover.

The nearly $168 million flood relief bill will wholly or partially cover 19 Minnesota counties, including: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Crow Wing, Dakota, Goodhue, Kandiyohi, Lake, Meeker, Pine, Rice, Sibley, St. Louis, Beltrami, Clearwater, Hubbard, Itasca, Koochiching and Cass.

"It's important to help our neighbors in need, and this disaster-relief package does exactly that," Davids concluded.
