National Ag Week was celebrated this year from March 4 to 10. In honor of this week, the Houston County Farm Bureau announced a video contest, which is open to any fifth through 12th grader in the 2011-12 school year, who is a resident of Houston County or attends a Houston County school.
There are two divisions: grades 5 to 8 will enter the Junior Division and Grades 9 to 12 will enter the Senior Division.
Students are encouraged to work together on the videos - especially a student who lives on a farm pairing up with a student who lives in town.
This contest is for a full-motion video with audio, between 3 to 5 minutes in length. The video must focus on one of the following Minnesota Farmers Care messages:
Minnesota Farmers CARE about their animals. This should focus on raising awareness of the ethical animal care.
Minnesota Farmers CARE about the environment. This should focus on farmers as conservationists and good stewards of land and water resources.
Minnesota Farmers CARE about food safety. This should focus on what farmers do to ensure Americans have a safe food supply.
Minnesota Farmers CARE about families. This should focus on farm family involvement in their communities/good neighbor practices.
For the complete rules and entry forms go to the Houston County Farm Bureau's Facebook page and click on the links.
There are cash prizes for each division: - first place $500, second place $200 and third place $100. There will also be a winner in a People's Choice category.
"We are planning a premiere night at the Spring Grove Cinema in July to showcase the videos and introduce the winners," organizers stated in a press release.
