Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is hosting a free educational workshop to help parents of high school students with their college planning.

Called "College Planning Strategies", the 90-minute workshop will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, at the Spring Grove Communications Building in Room #100, 166 W. Main St., Spring Grove.

The workshop is presented by Spring Grove alumnus Andrew Gray, a financial representative with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Northfield.

The workshop is designed to help parents avoid costly mistakes that can arise from choosing a college that isn't a good fit for their child.

It also covers: basic facts about financial aid; steps that parents and students can take to help save money by using admission and academic strategies; and, discovering funding sources to help pay for your child's college education and other ways to help minimize out-of-pocket expenses.

"According to the College Board's Trends in College Pricing 2012, the total cost of attendance averaged more than $22,261 nationally at public, four-year, in-state undergraduate schools," said Gray.

"It's important that families provide a college education for their children without sacrificing other financial goals or burdening their children with too much debt. This workshop can assist in those preparations."

To register for this free workshop, call Tom Bjerke at (507) 725-8600, email tom.bjerke@thrivent.com or respond online at www.Thrivent.com/findaworkshop. The reservation deadline is Friday, March 1.
