For the past month and a half, high school students at Spring Grove High School have been honing their acting abilities as they practiced for the One Act Sub-section Contest. This year, they presented the play, "A Mad Breakfast" by I. M. Gray.

In preparing for this past Saturday's competition, they presented the play to the high school student body at a dress rehearsal.

The students enjoyed seeing fellow classmates on stage as some perfected their southern accents for the humorous story of guests staying at a boarding house unfolded.

A wealthy visitor had come to this boarding house, and two jokesters told the guests that this visitor was especially interested in their unique individual hobbies. As each guest tried to entice the visitor to pay attention to them, hilarity ensued.

This was the final One Act contest for three seniors that have been involved in school theatre for many years. Students are able to begin participating in the One Act Play in seventh grade.

Addy Cross has been in six, Angel Spinden has been in five, and Kayla Hahn has been in four.

"I feel like I have really grown as a director with the seniors as they have grown as actors," remarked this year's director Sarah Schroeder.

"The seniors will be missed very much, but it has been great fun having so many new actors in the show. They have learned a lot from the experienced veterans."

The students competed in the Sub-section meet on Jan. 19. They did not qualify to continue on to the Section meet. They competed with Fillmore Central, Houston, Mabel-Canton and Rushford-Peterson. R-P placed first and FC placed second.

"Even though they did not go on to the next level of competition, the cast had a rewarding activity," added Schroeder.

This year's cast included: Addy Cross as Mrs. Simpkins, Kaitlin Bratland as Lizzie, Carrie Hagen as Miss Brown, Angel Spinden as Miss Smith, Sammi Boyd as Miss Green, Kayla Hahn as Mrs. Hill, Hank Hegge as Mr. Hill, Lance Hegge as Mr. Jones, Jacob Lenning as Mr. Roberts, Elliott Cross as Mr. Long, and Lexie Rains as the stage hand.
