It has again been an honor-filled postseason for Spring Grove/ Caledonia sophomore softball standout Samantha Bratland. And it is repeat recognition for five of her six accolades this year.

In the June 30 edition of the La Crosse Tribune, Bratland was named to that All-Area Team for a second season, this year as a First Team selection.

She was a Winona Daily News All-Area selection in both 2011 and 2012. This year the publication is not continuing the all-area tradition, but even carrying more prestige, Bratland was one of the four players under consideration for 2013 Area Player of the Year.

Those all-star honors follow her all-conference and all-section softball recognition for a third season each. This year, she also received Honorable Mention All- State.

She was previously voted Most Valuable Player by her SG/C teammates for the second straight season.

The sophomore is the youngest of all 12 First Team All-Tribune selections. Her outstanding 0.62 earned run average is the best among the four pitchers.

For SG/C this spring, Bratland had averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game sending 196 batters back to the dugout. She tossed three no-hitters including one in the playoffs.

Deservedly renown for her pitching prowess, Bratland was also a force at the plate where she hit three home runs while posting a .367 batting average and a .633 slugging percentage.

The only other southeast Minnesota player on the All-Tribune Team is Second Team selection junior Abbey Loken of Houston.
