The Bridges Golf Course (par 71) in Winona was the scene of the 1AA East Sub-section Tournament on May 24. For the Caledonia/ Spring Grove girls golf program, the meet represented the last time they would post a team score this season.

Eight programs were represented, but only the top two teams qualify to compete at section. C/SG finished fourth.
Lake City dominated with an 80-plus stroke victory, posting a team total of 355 (four best scores, 18 holes). Cotter took second with 437. St. Charles (444) was third, only four strokes ahead of C/SG (448) at the challenging par-71 course. Chatfield trailed at 533. There were three teams, which posted incomplete scores since they did not field at least four golfers.
The top 10 individuals not on the qualifying teams also advanced. For C/SG, all four players who contributed to the team score qualified to compete as individuals at the section meet. That included senior Katie Meyer, junior Julianna Sand and freshmen Ashley Gavin and Claudia Melde.
"Congratulations to Katie, Julie, Ashley, and Claudia for qualifying for the section tournament as individuals," said C/SG coach Jacquelyn Hauser. "Even though we didn't qualify for sections as a team, it is a big accomplishment for those four to make it individually."
Gavin tied for 11th on the individual scoreboard at 107. Melde fired 112 while Meyer shot 113. Sand carded a 116. Hannah Hendel and Claire Eglinton also competed for the varsity. Gavin and Meyer also went to section last year.
Eighth-grader Lexi Geolat of Lake City won meet medalist honors, firing an 86. The Tigers posted five of the top six scores of the day.
Section 1AA Championships
On May 29, Stewartville junior MacKenzie Olsen fired a 76 at Eastwood Golf Club, winning meet medalist honors at the par-70 venue. She led a group of five individual golfers who qualified for state. The cutoff was 86.
Only one team from the section tournament advances to state. Lake City of the Hiawatha Valley League took the team title, defeating Stewartville by 10 strokes. Zumbrota-Mazeppa was third followed by Cotter.
On the individual board, Meyer led the C/SG contingent by finishing in 21st place, shooting a 95. Gavin fired a 109, Melde 113 and Sand 115.
"The girls represented themselves well at the section tournament," Hauser noted. "Katie Meyer finished with a competitive score of 95. I was also proud (of) Ashley, Claudia, and Julie for the way they played on a course that they had never seen before. It was a great experience for those three that will hopefully benefit them next year."
Other individuals who will join Olsen at the state tourney in Jordan are Madeline Pagel of Rochester Lourdes, Alex Nutter of La Crescent, Kelsey Hedlund of Byron, and Jessica Rosenblad, also of Stewartville.
The C/SG girls won the TRC South Division championship at 8-0 and finished second among seven teams at the conference tournament before placing fourth at sub-section to close with an overall 12-4 record.
