The Spring Grove/Caledonia softball team blanked the Lewiston-Altura Cardinals 8-0 on Friday, May 2.

Ace hurler Samantha Bratland, recently named KTTC Player of the Week, threw a three-hitter for the visitors. Pitching with characteristic power and accuracy, she struck out 10 while walking none, recording 68 sizzling strikes and only 26 balls.

SG/C led off with a pair of singles followed by two walks and brought all four home before the first inning ended.

A walk to Bratland in the fourth spot brought Marie Doering home; Lauren Rusert got an RBI (run batted in) with a fly ball, and then number six hitter Emily Ranzenberger hit a 2-RBI single.

It was all that SG/C needed to place another "W" in the column, but the visitors added a pair of insurance runs in both the second and seventh, just in case.

The Cards (6-3, 3-3 TRC North) utilized three pitchers but still surrendered 9 hits.

SG/C improved to 6-1 in the TRC South and was set to travel to Southland on May 5 for a doubleheader with the Rebels.
