The Caledonia/Spring Grove girls golf team is ready to hit the links this spring, just as soon as conditions permit. Last year, the Warriors went 12-5, 8-0 in conference play, winning the TRC South.

It wasn't anything new for the ladies, who have now won an astonishing 35 of 36 conference titles since Caledonia and Spring Grove combined for golf. They'll bring back three of four section qualifiers this season including two all-conference golfers.

Sophomores CLAUDIA MELDE and ASHLEY GAVIN both competed at section and earned All-TRC honors. For Gavin, this year brings a chance for a third-straight section appearance. Senior JULIANNA SAND also qualified for section.

Head coach Jacquelyn Snodgrass begins her third year at the helm. Legendary golf coach Mitch Mullins will serve as assistant to both the girls and boys programs.

"We are young this year but have quite a few girls returning with varsity experience," Snodgrass said. "We will look to compete for the conference championship and sub-section championship. We have a lot of girls that work hard and have put in a lot of time to get better, so I'm excited to see their improvement over the season."

Snodgrass noted that her trio of returning section players will be expected to lead this year after the team graduated three starters in 2013.

Others who could step up this season include seniors Rachel Peterson and Karli Fishbaugher, and eighth-graders Rebeckah Schroeder and Katrina Paulson.

Schroeder and Paulson saw some varsity playing time last year, and "I expect them to fill into some of the open varsity spots," Snodgrass said. "They both work very hard on their games, and I'm excited to see their improvement."

Peterson and Fishbaugher "also have a chance to make the varsity team," she noted. "Rachel took a year off last season but is working hard to bring her game back, and Karli has made great improvements so far this season and has a good chance at playing in some varsity meets.

The roster also includes sophomore Nicole Krenzke, eighth-graders Gabrielle Murphy, Jadyn Olerud, and Stine Myrah, and seventh-grader Maria Myrah.

Fillmore Central will be the team to beat in the conference, while Lake City and Stewartville "are always solid programs in the section," Snodgrass predicted.

"We hope to continue the streak of winning the conference championship again this year. We were 2-1 (C/SG won both conference matches) against Fillmore last year, and they have all of their starters returning. So we should have some good match-ups against them this year.
