Boys win six events, girls five in track debut

Four track programs met in Rushford on April 3. Besides the host Rushford-Peterson/Houston Trojans, La Crescent and Lanesboro/Fillmore Central/ Mabel-Canton mixed it up with Caledonia/Spring Grove.
Both the boys and girls Warrior squads finished third in team point totals.
Girls track and field
La Crescent 80, C/SG 67,
Maria Fruechte from C/SG finished second in the 100-meter dash and won the 200 with a time of 28.71 seconds. In the 3200-meter run, Warrior Brenna Werner finished first with a time of 13 minutes, 5 seconds.
Hannah Russert scored points in the hurdles, winning the 100 in 17.53 (matching her personal best) and placing second in the 300.
In the triple jump, Russert took another first, winning with a distance of 31 feet-10.25 inches (a personal best).
Heidi Jo Buxengard won the pole vault, clearing 8-0.
In the ladies relay events, the 4x800 team of Lauren Arneson, Werner, Liz Johnson and Juliana Sand took second place.
The 4x100 team of Ella Pieper, Hannah Felten, Trece Frank and Tracy Felton took third. The 4x200 team of Taylor Schulte, Alyssa Albert, Lydia DeMorett and Josie Wagner also took third.
Alexis King finished third among 12 high jumpers while setting a personal record of 4-6. Frank took third in the shot put.
Boys track and field
C/SG 68, La Crescent 80 53
For the boys, Adam Drenkhahn won the 100-meter dash in 11.35 seconds. Ryan Pitts took second in the event, setting a personal record of 11.58. Aric Elmore won the 400 with a time of 54.90, also a personal best. Sean Kearney finished third.
In the high jump, West Spier won when he cleared 5 feet-9 inches. He also took second in the long jump and second in the triple jump.
Cornelius Dunningen won the discus, slinging the object well over 100 feet (114-01.50, a personal record). Mason Ashbacher also set a personal record of 96-9, good for fourth in a field of 16.
The boys 4x100 relay squad of Pitts, Adam Buttell, Elmore and Drenkhahn finished first with a time of 45.98. The same four runners won the 4x200 in 1:36.59.
Team 'B' for the 4x100 consisted of Mitchell Anderson, Shane Sheehan, Alex Goetzinger and Alex Marschall. They snagged third in that race.
In the 4x400, Sheehan, Anderson, Nick McGraw and Spier took third.
The other throwing event found Warrior Bryan Barthel taking second among 20 contestants in shot put (35-4.50).
In the distance events, Jan Baliak took third in the 3200M run.
The C/SG girls and boys host both La Crescent and Rushford-Peterson/Houston on Friday, April 13. The boys compete at Decorah on Monday, April 16 with both the boys and girls heading to La Crosse Logan on April 17.
