Claudia Melde was medalist in girls golf win at Rushford-Peterson. CRAIG MOORHEAD/SPRING GROVE HERALD
The Caledonia/Spring Grove girls golf team (7-2, 5-2 TRC) competed twice last week. On Monday, La Crescent hosted the ladies at Valley High Golf Club. The following afternoon, C/SG traveled to Ferndale Country Club to take on Rushford-Peterson.

Competition couldn't have been much closer at Valley High where both the Warrior and Lancer top four totaled 228. That means a tie breaker decided by the fifth varsity score. C/SG shot a 59 on its fifth-best round while La Crescent carded a 66, so the visitors got the win.

Lancer freshman Alex Nutter took meet medalist honors shooting 46.

For C/SG, Katrina Paulson carded a 54. Julie Sand shot 57 while Ashley Gavin brought in a 58.

Rebeckah Schroeder and Karli Fishbaugher both shot 59. Claudia Melde also played on the varsity round.

C/SG defeated R-P 229-334 on the outskirts of Rushford. Melde was the medalist, at 54. Schroeder shot 57 while Gavin and Paulson both carded 59. Sand and Fishbaugher also played for the varsity.

In spite of the wins, C/SG coach Jacquelyn Snodgrass said the scores were not quite what the Warriors were looking for.

"This was a rough week for us," she said. "Our lack of ability to practice the last couple of weeks has reflected in our higher scores. We finally got in some good practices later this week and were able to work on the things that were causing us trouble and will continue to prepare for tournament time... "

The team has one more match before the conference tourney, which will be held on Thursday, May 15 at Eastwood in Rochester. That one involved a trip to Root River Country Club to face Kingsland, on Monday, May 12.

Next week, Kingsland plans a return visit to Caledonia. The Section AA tourney will be held on May 23 and 28.
