Ellingson repeats with top net award

Senior Nicki Ellingson for the second straight season has been named Impact Player of the Year in Spring Grove volleyball team voting. The four-time letter winner also made the All-Conference first team, and earned Academic All-State honors as well.
SAMMI BOYD is another repeat winner voted the Heart Award for the second year. The senior now has two letters for volleyball.
The 2013 Most Improved Player Award went to junior KAILEE BJERKE, who earned her second letter this season.
Junior LAUREN ARNESON also collected a second letter and is the 2013 Hustle Award winner.
Sophomore Jordan Anderson earned a spot on the All-Conference first team and took home her first volleyball letter.
Senior Aly Folz and junior Samantha Bratland each earned a third volleyball letter.
Seniors Tara Solberg (Honorable Mention All-Conference) and Heidi Buxengard earned letter number two while juniors Elizabeth Johnson and Carrie Hagen plus sophomore Sierra Hunter took home their first volleyball letters.
The 2013 Lions were successful on the court (10-3 SEC, 19-11 overall) as well as in the classroom. As a team, they earned the Academic All-State Silver Award with a 3.63 GPA. The Lion ladies have now been so honored for the second time in three seasons.
Spring Grove is now the defending champion of the Waukon Invitational Tourney and took second place in the SEC East.
Head coach Michelle Anderson completed her 23rd season at the helm. She was aided by assistant coach Bethany Bergsgaard. Junior high coaching duties went to Jennifer Schieber and Lyn Solberg.
