Eleven members of the Caledonia/Spring Grove Track and Field teams advanced to section competition as the Sub-section 1 championships were held in Rushford on May 23.

All first, second and third place finishers will advance to the section meet along with those who meet or surpass the 1A standard, time, distance or height. A third way is to finish among the top 8 among all four subsections.

Warrior Ryan Pitts won all three of his running events, breaking the tape in the 100-meter dash in 11.20 seconds, crossing the line at 200M in 23.28 and anchoring the 4x100M relay squad that included Sam Schulte, Alex Goetzinger and Adam Buttell. Their winning time was 44.70 (a best for this year). Goetzinger saw limited action due to an injury.

Both of Pitts' individual times matched his personal records. It is the second year he has qualified in a relay.

West Spier won the high jump at 6 feet-1 inch. It is the second year he is sub-section champion in the event.

Hannah Russert qualified in four events. She won the 100M hurdles in 16.34 seconds (a new personal record). Russert took third in both the 300M hurdles and triple jump events.

She also ran on the second-place 4x200M relay with Maria Fruechte, Ali Beardmore and Josephine Wagner. The relay squad posted its best time this season (11.13.21). Fruechte has already been to state twice.

Emma Lange won the high jump at 5-0. It was her fourth year as sub-section champ. She will be competing for a fourth straight section title.

Shot put was won by Aly Folz at 34-10.50. She finished second last year in both the sub-section and section.

Just short of qualifying with fourth-place finishes were Sam Schulte (boys 200M) Spier (boys long jump). Folz (girls discus) and Wagner (girls 400M dash).

Laura Jergenson ran fifth in the 1600M run with a new personal record time of 5.56.75.
