Spring Grove seventh grader Alex Folz, who had previously won the Minnesota Vikings four-state Punt, Pass & Kick competition at the Metrodome, has since learned that he is one of four finalists for the national championship in his age group for 12-to-13 year-old boys.

The final contest will be held on either Jan. 11 or 12 in conjunction with one of the AFL professional football playoff games.

There were 33 qualifying NFL championships, but only the four highest scores advance to the final national championship round.

Folz had the highest qualifying score in his age group, one point better than one of the other finalists. Now the final four in each age group all begin anew with the national title on the line.
