Several competitors from the Caledonia/Spring Grove track and field team traveled to the Minnesota High School Indoor Classic track meet on March 30, accompanied by coach emeritus Paul Stevens.
"This is one of the oldest indoor meets in the state," Stevens reported. "It has gone through a lot of changes over the years."
The competition was held in Minneapolis at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
"I ran in it back in 1969," Stevens said. "But it was a dirt indoor track then. No one is invited to this meet; it's just whoever wants to show up. Now it's mostly the bigger schools nearer the cities that come.
"It was sort of disappointing that there weren't more jumpers for Emma (Lange) to jump against. But, I suppose the Easter weekend had a lot to do with it. All in all, the kids performed very well against the bigger AA schools."
Lange took first place in high jump, clearing 5 feet, 2 inches. There were 11 athletes at the event.
West Spier took third in high jump at 6-0. Nineteen boys competed at that station.
Aly Folz finished sixth out of 26 athletes in shot put with a throw of 31-00.50. Hannah Russert ran seventh in the 60-meter hurdles.
