Four Spring Grove girls basketball teams combined for a 40-7 record versus Southeast Conference (SEC) opponents in 2013 and went 47-31 overall.

While the varsity girls extended their league winning streak to 72 games for a fourth straight league championship, the B-team girls logged a 14-1 SEC record having now won 48 of their last 49 conference contests.

The B-girls were 16-6 overall completing a sixth straight season with a winning record. This year, that included wins over perennially powerful area programs Caledonia and Rushford-Peterson.

All six setbacks came by single-digit margins including an overtime three-point loss against Iowa Class AAA Waukon. The girls came up only two points short of Class AA La Crescent.

The eighth-grade team, with help from several seventh-grade girls, went 6-9 overall with a winning 6-3 mark against league rivals.

The seventh-grade team, with contributions from many sixth graders, closed at 2-9 for the season including a 2-3 record against conference opposition.

Russell Larson has been the head coach for eight seasons, each assisted by B-team coach Heath Olson.

Danielle Dehning (2005 Lion MVP, two-year All-SEC standout and collegiate player at St. Mary's) has worked with the junior high girls for the past four seasons.

Erin (Oefstedahl) Konkel, who scored 504 points during her Lion playing days, joined the junior high staff two years ago.

The grade-school program is in the dedicated and capable hands of volunteers Todd Olerud, Tom Bjerke, Mike Solum, Jana Masters and Kelly Masters with valuable assistance of current Lion players Kailee Bjerke and Kelsey Hermanson.

Seeing B-team action were junior Amanda Hahn, sophomores Lauren Arneson, Kailee Bjerke, Samantha Bratland and Elizabeth Johnson plus freshman Jordan Anderson and eighth grader Kelsey Hermanson.

Drawing junior high assignments were eighth graders Stine Myrah, Breanna Lee, Grace Edgington and Desirae Brainard - all supported by manager Danika Albert..

Seventh grade cagers were Lauryn Bohr, Kaitlyn Gross, Jadyn Olerud, Harlee Gavin, Hannah Borreson, Erin Pellowski and Miah Tate.

Sixth graders who played junior high were Sydnie Kampschroer, Mariah Edgington, Maria Myhre, Kailee Olerud, Kyleigh Doering, Gina Lund, Emily Guberud, Rhiannon Skauge, Alyssa Johnson and Kaitlyn Vickerman.
