The girls from Caledonia/Spring Grove's golf team finally had a chance to "tee it up" on April 26 as a long-postponed season got underway. Facing Fillmore Central, C/SG prevailed 224-231.

Keeley Todd of FC was meet medalist with the low round of the afternoon (48). Katie Meyer was low for C/SG at 55.

The four best varsity rounds are tallied for an overall team score. Ashley Gavin and Julianna Sand both turned in solid rounds, only one stroke behind Meyer. Claudia Melde and Hannah Hendel were close behind, turning in identical scores of 57. Claire Eglinton also competed on the varsity, shooting a 60.

The C/SG JV also played. Rebeckah Schroeder had a round of 62 followed by a 65 for Katrina Paulson and a 74 from Karli Fishbaugher.

"This was a big first win for us as Fillmore is one of the best teams in the conference," C/SG coach Jacquelyn Hauser reported.

"Scores were a little higher than we would like, but that is to be expected with our lack of ability to get out and play.

"It has been a long month hitting into nets inside. They are working hard and trying to make the best of the situation. We will be playing a lot of golf in the next few weeks, and I am excited to see the progress we make."

Currently, the team was scheduled to play at Decorah on April 29 and then at the Wabasha-Kellogg Tournament on May 2 and at Chatfield on May 3. It is back home versus Southland on May 6 before playing at Fillmore Central on May 7.

Mother Nature was appearing to remain fickle as the five-day forecast was calling for showers and thunderstorms off and on Tuesday through Friday with temperatures dropping from 79 on Tuesday to an high of only 38 on Friday when the "S-word" (snow) comes out again. The evening temperatures will again hover around 32-35 degrees. UffDa!

Boys golf

The weather-delayed season golf opener for the C/SG boys versus Decorah concluded just before the press deadline. If the weather permits, they were slated to play at Southland on Tuesday of this week before the Thursday, May 2 tournament at Wabasha-Kellogg.

The boys play at Chatfield on Friday, May 3. Next week, the C/SG boys host conference matches with Southland on Monday, May 6 and Rushford-Peterson on Tuesday.
