SG/C at Winona Cotter, May 9

SG/C 000 001 001 - 2 7 0

WC 100 000 000 - 1 6 0

Friday afternoon featured a 2-1 pitcher's duel in Winona. SG/C tied the game 1-1 in the top of the sixth then scored what proved to be the winning run in the top of the ninth.

Cotter led off with three straight singles in the first frame, sending lead-off hitter Kelly Vaselaar home before Bratland and an error-free set of fielders clamped down on further Rambler forays on the base paths.

Other than one walk, no home field batters got on base until the eighth when Cotter succeeded in loading the bases with only one out. Bratland then slammed the door, catching a pop up and striking out the cleanup hitter. She fanned a total of 14 batters on the night.

Three SG/C singles bunched in the sixth (Taylor Augedahl, Bratland, and Rusert) had sent the game into extra innings. In the ninth, Anderson led off with a double and came home on a Mackenzie Denstad single.

With Cotter being a new member of the Three Rivers Conference, the teams met during the regular season for the first time. It was only SG/C's second win against Cotter in their last 11 meetings (since 2001).

Due to the difficulty of rescheduling many weather postponements, the TRC has changed the format for deciding baseball and softball division champions. Now only the two games played against rivals in the same 6-team division will count in the championship races. Crossover games against teams in the other division will no longer affect the division titles.

As a result, SG/C is no longer alone atop the TRC South softball standings. The girls (9-1 on the season) now share the lead with Chatfield (8-4) each at 5-1 in South Division games.
