The Caledonia/Spring Grove girls clinched a 26th straight conference golf championship by placing ahead of Fillmore Central in the Three Rivers Conference Tournament on May 16. The week had begun with the girls team traveling to neighboring non-conference rival La Crescent on May 13. The hosting Lancers teed it up with their Warrior guests at Valley High Golf Course between Houston and Hokah.

La Crescent won the competitive varsity meet by five strokes, 210-215.

The difference was Lancer eighth-grader Alex Nutter, who took medalist honors as the only player to break 50, coming in at 44.

For C/SG, Hannah Hendel shot the low round at 52. Katie Meyer scored 53, the same as Ashley Gavin. Claudia Melde posted a 57. Julie Sand and Claire Eglinton also played for the varsity.

The TRC Tourney was held at The Bridges in Winona. Besides deciding the annual tournament championship, this year's event also counted as the second half of the double round-robin format for both the North Zone and South Zone regular-season races. This was a one-season change as weather prevented completion of the usual double round-robin format.

The Warriors finished second out of a field of seven teams but was the highest ranking South Zone club thereby counting as a team dual victory over each of the other four South Zone squads.

Wabasha-Kellogg (from the North Zone) won team bragging rights as tourney champion with a score of 375. C/SG checked in at 432 followed by Fillmore Central (438), Lewiston-Altura (442), St. Charles (446), Southland (489) and Chatfield (522).

The Warriors' 6-stroke edge over Fillmore Central gave C/SG a second zone win over the Falcons and the South Zone title outright.

The meet medalist was W-K sophomore Tiffany Stumpf at 86. She was one of three teammates who appeared among the top four spots in individual rankings.

Gavin of C/SG tied for the fifth-lowest score at 99. Meyer shot 103 followed by Melde (109) and Hendel (121). Sand and Eglinton also played for the Warrior varsity.

Up next week: Weather permitting, the Warriors hosted Kingsland in the final zone dual on May 20 as this issue went to press. Details will be in next week's Herald.

The 1AA East Sub-section tournament kicks off on Friday, May 24, again at The Bridges. The section meet is at Eastwood in Rochester on Wednesday, May 29.
