The Caledonia/Spring Grove/Houston gymnasts finished eighth among the nine teams at the Minnesota Section 1A Gymnastics Championships at Byron on Feb. 16. The Warriors competed against champion Austin as well as Byron-Lourdes, La Crescent, Pine Island, Red Wing, Simley, Stewartville/Kasson-Mantorville and South St. Paul.

Sierra Hunter was the highest-placing Warrior in three events - uneven parallel bars, vault and floor exercise. Tara Solberg led the team on the balance beam.

No Warriors were among the top four girls in each event who qualify for the state tourney at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion on Feb. 22-23.

In addition, the top four all-around gymnasts advance, as well as the top team. There are 16 section meets sending competitors to state.

Austin won the team competition with a cumulative score of 148.375. The Warriors finished eighth in team totals at 120.525 points.

State-bound in vault are Sela Fadness of Austin (9.75) along with teammate Maddie Mullenbach (9.475). Sierra McNallan of Pine Island took third (9.4) while Rochelle Thesing of La Crescent finished fourth (9.325).

For the Warriors, Hunter turned in a vault score of 8.55, earning her 24th position in the huge field of competitors. Solberg earned 8.35 points while Abby Hoskins (8.25) and Emily Hahn (7.75) also hit the vault.

On bars, Fadness was again first with 9.525 points. Thesing took second at 9.3. Abby Bickler of Austin scored 9.275, earning third place. Mullenbach (9.0) will also go to state.

Hunter turned in an outstanding performance, earning 11th place with a score of 8.05. Skylar Schoh stepped up for Caledonia, scoring 7.45 on the event. Other Warrior athletes included Solberg with 7.175, Hoskins with 7.15 and Hahn with 5.05.

Balance beam was won by Fadness (9.7). McNallan took second (9.3) while Mullenbach finished third (9.175). Fourth place went to Abby Snater (9.1) of Austin.

For C/SG/H, Solberg finished high in the standings, earning 15th with a score of 8.2. Hahn (8.05), Hunter (7.5), Alissa Peterson (5.4) and Hoskins (5.0) also competed on the event.

Floor exercise had Fadness first (9.575), Bickler second (9.445), Mullenbach third (9.275) and Carolyn Hackel of Austin in fourth (9.2).

Hunter finished in 15th on floor, earning 8.3 points. Hoskins took 6.875 while Solberg (6.825) and Hahn (6.65) also vied for points at the station.

In the all-around competition, Fadness (38.55), Bickler (36.925), Mullenbach (36.925) and Thesing (36.925) earned tickets to the state tourney.

All-around gymnasts for C/SG/H included Hunter (32.4), who finished 16th. Solberg (30.55), Hahn (27.5) and Hoskins (27.275) also earned all-around scores.
