Samantha Bratlnd attacks versus Hope Lutheran.
In a come-from-behind victory, the Lions continued their domination of Hope Lutheran last week. The teams faced off at the Wabasha Rec Center in Winona on September 5, and it looked as if the Patriots (3-3, 1-3 SEC) were ready to score their first-ever win over Spring Grove after they took the first two sets 26-24, 25-21.

That's when the Lion offense began to click, allowing the visitors to sweep the next three sets.

SG dominated the third and fourth sets, 25-13 and 25-15. But the Patriots opened the deciding fifth frame with setter Bailey Bautch serving 4 successive aces.

The Lions (5-5, 2-1 SEC) trailed 10-5 before five different players scored with 5 kills, an ace block and an ace serve. Nicki Ellingson tied it all up at 13-13 with a kill, and then Samantha Bratland served an ace. The final point came with Jordan Anderson assisting another Ellingson kill shot, sealing the match 15-13.

Overall, Anderson had 28 set assists plus 6 kills of her own while Ellingson finished with 15 kills, 4 scoring blocks and 4 ace serves. Tara Solberg added 9 kills with 7 from Bratland. Aly Folz contributed 4 kills and 2 blocks. Kailee Bjerke added 3 kills.

Through the first two sets, the Lions had given away exactly as many points (24) as they earned. But in the final three sets, SG had many more winners (46) than errors (18).

Tiahia Aune led Hope with 11 kills and 3 service aces. All-Conference Dakota Ellinghuysen had 10 kills, 2 aces and a block.

Although this was the best Patriot attack the Lions had faced while dominating the series 12-0, SG outscored Hope with 47 kills to 31.

The Lions also had a 7-to-5 edge in blocks and a 16-to-12 advantage in ace serves. In addition to Ellingson's 4 service winners, Heidi Buxengard led with 5 with another 4 aces served by Bratland and 2 from Sammi Boyd.

Hope Lutheran won the B-team match 2-1. There was no freshman contest.
