The Decorah Boys Invitational on April 15 drew competitors from eight programs. Decorah took first place with 127 points, while C/SG came in sixth.
Trailing the host Vikings were Osage (98.75), South Winneshiek (97), Crestwood (70), Waukon (49.75), C/SG (39), MFL Mar-Mac (38.50) and Turkey Valley (38).
Pitts won the 100-meter dash with his best posted time ever (11.32 seconds) in the event, earning 10 points for the team. Teammate Sam Schulte took fifth for an additional two points.
Pitts also set a new personal best in the 200M dash taking second with a time of 23.56. It was a strong showing for the junior sprinter, especially considering the cold conditions and the fact that it was the first meet of the year. The second place finish earned eight points for C/SG.
Junior West Spier won the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, good for an additional 10 points.
In the 4x100M relay, the team of Pitts, Schulte, Alex Goetzinger and Adam Buttell took second place, scoring eight points. Their time was 47.23.
The 4x200M relay team of Goetzinger, Jacob Nielson Mitchell Anderson and Buttell took sixth place for an additional team point.
The Iowa meet featured some events that C/SG would not see in Minnesota, such as the shuttle hurdle relay and the distance medley relay.
The low hurdles also had a 400M distance, whereas Minnesota meets include a 300M-hurdle course. Some Minnesota events such as triple jump were not included.
It was the first time C/SG attended the Decorah meet. This is also the first and only track meet able to be held so far this spring and will be the only one for C/SG that does not include both the boys and the girls.
A meet at Rushford-Peterson has been postponed twice and is now set to run on Thursday, April 25, at 4:30 p.m. The thinclads compete the next day in La Crescent beginning at 4 p.m.
