Spring Grove/Caledonia completed its softball post-season run last week playing twice on Friday in St. Charles and once the following Tuesday at Austin's Todd Park.
SG/C began the third round of play (sub-section finals) ranked No. 10 in the state and exited the tourney at section five days later with a loss to No. 5 Zumbrota-Mazeppa.
After reaching the section tournament for a fourth straight year, SG/C closed the season at 17-3. The girls won 3 and dropped 2 during postseason play in exceptionally strong Section 1AA.

SG/C did rally in the bottom of the eighth as Sophia Augedahl smacked her second double of the game for one RBI and Mackenzie Denstad smashed another two-bagger for a second run.

The hit of the night came from Denstad who smashed a three RBI home run for SG/C.
P-E-M (16-7) rallied in the sixth scoring three runs on one hit, three walks, and a pair of errors, but could not close the gap as the Bulldogs exited tourney play.

SG/C lost its final tournament game 2-0 to state-ranked (No. 5) Zumbrota-Mazeppa whose only previous tournament loss had occurred at the hands the No. 1 ranked team in the state, Kasson-Mantorville. The K-M Komets went on to win the section tourney two days later punching their ticket to state.
Both SG/C and Z-M (20-3) arrived at Section 1AA as sub-section runners-up meaning they each already had one loss in the double elimination format.
SC/C scattered base runners in four different innings but had the tying run in scoring position (runners on second and third) in the seventh with two outs.
But error-free play and good pitching secured the victory for the Cougars. It was only the second time this season that SG/C has been held scoreless and their third loss of the year.
Z-M pitcher Morgan Olson scored both runs and helped herself with the only multiple-base hit of the game, a fifth-inning triple. She also led off in the first and reached third base on a series of errors before being thrown out at the plate.
The defensive play of the game came in the sixth when right fielder Lauren Rusert made a great sprinting grab while racing toward the foul line.
