Accolades continue to roll in for high school softball and baseball players representing the shared teams from Spring Grove and Caledonia.
SG/C softball players Samantha Bratland and Lottie Augedahl as well as C/SG baseball pitcher Ryan Frank have each been named to an all-area diamond team for the second time in 2012.
Joining Frank on the First Team of the All-Winona Daily News (WDN) Baseball Team was Warrior teammate Austin Goergen.
Bratland was First Team All-WDN Softball while Augedahl was joined on the Second Team by SG/C teammates Shannon Doering and Amanda Heberlein.
Two Houston senior girls, Kalene Hill and Brooke Anderson, were also Second Team selections.
First Team selections were accompanied by coach comments:
Asked about Bratland, SG/C softball coach Michelle Anderson told the WDN, "Samantha is a young exciting softball player. She is a very steady presence on the mound and at the plate. She is someone that our team counts on game in and game out to bring her talent and passion for softball. We are excited for Samantha to be a big part of our team in the upcoming years."
Bratland is one of four First Team pitchers and was one of only two freshmen among the 28 softball honorees.
For two years, Bratland has been All-Southeast Conference and All-Section 1AA. With excellence in the classroom, she is also Academic All-SEC. Previously, she was named to the 2012 All-Tribune (La Crosse) Second Team. Her SG/C teammates voted her Most Valuable Player.
Bratland had a 15-4 pitching record with a 1.80 earned run average (ERA). She struck out 177 batters last season while walking only 68 and allowing only 60 base hits in 110 2/3 innings. At the plate, she batted .397 with 22 runs batted in (RBI).
Frank went 9-1 as a senior who pitched eight complete games for C/SG. He posted a 1.29 ERA with 66 strikeouts and only 14 walks in 65 2/3 innings.
Frank, one of four hurlers on the All-WDN First Team, was previously named Second Team All-Tribune (La Crosse) after earning All-Three Rivers Conference acclaim.
C/SG coach Dave Konz told the WDN, "Ryan was our go-to guy this year. We could always count on Ryan giving us a chance to win every single time he stepped on the mound. He came along and took his role as a senior seriously and led us all season."
Goergen was one of two First Team All-WDN catchers. The all-conference senior standout batted .368 with a .566 slugging percentage. He hit six doubles and drove in 23 runs.
Konz told the WDN, "Austin was a great kid to coach because of his attitude. He was willing to play anywhere I asked him to. He played catcher, right field, third base and designated hit from time to time. He was a really versatile player."
Augedahl, a sophomore catcher, batted .346, scored 24 runs and drove in 21 more. She had an excellent .983 fielding average. She was All-Southeast Conference before being named to the 2012 All-Tribune Second Team.
Heberlein was All-SEC for the second season. The senior first baseman/pitcher batted .351 and posted SG/C team highs with 25 RBI and 10 extra-base hits.
She had a sterling .991 fielding percentage and had a 3-0 record while pitching 31 1/3 innings.
Doering was a Second Team All-WDN outfielder. The All-SEC senior hit .365 with 19 RBI and a perfect 1.000 fielding average.
