A team of sixth-grade boys earned a trip to a state tournament with their third-place finish among 16 mostly larger schools at the Pacesetter Region I Basketball Championships. All four games were played on April 6 at Rochester Community Technical College.

These Lions overwhelmed Class AA Plainview-Elgin-Millville Black 47-11 and then Class AA Triton 60-32 before falling in the semi-finals to Faribault Bethlehem Academy 43-38.

The boys came back to dominate the third-place game 44-22 over Plainview-Elgin-Millville Gold.

Teams with only one loss at region tourneys are eligible to advance to the June 16 Minnesota Invitational Tournament in St. Cloud.

Playing for SG were Ethan Matzke, Alex Folz, Kai Bjerke, Corbin Moser, Takoda Boyd, Noah Elton and Kyle Hagan. The team is coached by Chris Strinmoen.
