The Caledonia/Spring Grove baseball team wrapped up their regular season at state-ranked Wabasha-Kellogg on May 20, losing 7-1. Three days later they took a No. 7 seeding into the section tournament, traveling to Winona for first-round action against No. 2 seeded Cotter.

The regular season came to a close on May 20 for both teams with conference champion and state-ranked No. 4 Class A Wabasha-Kellogg winning 7-1 over C/SG.
The loss placed the Warriors in a four-way tie at the bottom of the conference standings. The game counted as a non-conference loss since the Falcons had taken the TRC contest earlier in the season by a score of 1-0.
"We had a hard time today generating offense," C/SG coach Dave Konz reported. "When we would get runners on, we stranded them. When you don't give yourself any run production, it makes it difficult to win."
The Warriors scored in the top of the first inning, but advanced only three more runners as far as second base thereafter. Caledonia/Spring Grove only put two hits together in the same inning on two occasions.
Justin Burg batted 2 for 3 with a double. Tanner Langen also hit 2 for 3, while Blaine Storlie went 2 for 4. Joe Pettit had an RBI single to put C/SG ahead 1-0 in the opening frame.
The Falcons (12-1, 9-1 TRC) defended without an error while five W-K pitchers combined to strike out 11 and walk only 2. Nine different Falcons had base hits including a 2-run homer by Austin Baab that put W-K up 2-1 in the bottom of the first.
Later in the evening, C/SG (2-10, 2-8 TRC) received the seventh seed in the Class AA sub-section East Tournament. W-K received the top seed in the corresponding Class A tourney.

In the sub-section quarterfinal opener, the Warriors were defeated by the second-seeded team from Cotter, 6-1. It is double elimination only for teams that win quarterfinal games, so the season ends for C/SG with a 2-11 record (2-8 TRC).
Cotter faced No. 3 seed La Crescent on May 25. Next week's Herald will include details on Thursday's Warrior game, since statistics were not available as this issue went to press early due to the holiday weekend.
