After a one-week hiatus, 600 Mod-Lites once again took to the track at Decorah's Upper Iowa Speedway (UIS) in Decorah, Iowa, on July 7.

Curt Luhmann has had a lot of success with his 600cc mini-car at UIS this season. Scoring a victory on Saturday, the Rushford resident has now won four out of seven feature races this year, dominating the points series in No. 8.

Bruce Schmidt of Fountain City, Wis., took second, followed by Justin Zmyewski of Houston. For Zmyewski, Saturday's race was his first 2012 appearance at UIS.

Todd Kiehne of Harmony took fourth, followed by John Griffin of Caledonia. Chris Eide of Rushford came in ninth.

Luhman's 670 points is 50 above that of Griffin, who has one win, two second-place finishes and three third-place races. Eide stands third on the leader board with 562.

B-Mods brought out a deep 21-car field with Jeremy Schaufenbuel of New Hampton, Iowa, taking the checkered flag. It was the first 2012 UIS win for pole-position taker Schaufenbuel, who has made steady improvement with #34, moving from the back of the field in some early starts to a second-place run on June 30.

Sixth place went to Spring Grove's Jon VanMinsel who holds fourth place in the season standings with 610 points.

Casey Knutson of Spring Grove came in 12th and is sixth in the season points chase. Taylor Knutson of Caledonia was 21st Saturday night.

Hobby Stocks drew 15 cars to the quarter-mile clay oval. Decorah's Dan Hovden scored his third UIS victory on Saturday and now stands in second place on the leader board, just 19 points behind fellow Decorah driver Adam Cline, who took second place.

Harmony driver Chad Olson took 11th while Adam Sveen of Lanesboro took 13th.

Kevin Donlan of Decorah won the Stock Car feature, moving up from a fifth-place start to score 100 points on the season board. It was Donlan's first checkered flag, but he's been in the hunt all year, with a couple of seconds, a third, fourth, fifth and sixth.

The driver now stands in third with 701 points, just one notch behind Matt Jones (702) and 48 behind leader Mitch Hovden (749). Hovden finished second on Saturday, while Jones took third.

Spring Grove's Pete Solum took fourth place and stands fifth on the leader board with 671 points.

Seventh was taken by Shawn Peter of Mabel with Jake Lampert of Caledonia on his heels in eighth place.

Eight drivers competed in 4-Cylinder Hornets. Jay Mensink won the feature working his way up from sixth position. The Harmony native stands alone on top of the standings list with 660. Christopher Schansberg of Caledonia finished seventh in his season debut.

On Thursday, July 12 the UIS will hold races as part of the Winneshiek County Fair. There will be no races on the 14th. Weekly points races resume on Saturday, July 21. Hot laps are at 6 p.m. with racing at 6:30.
