Motorists can expect single-lane traffic on Highway 16 between Spring Valley and Preston beginning Monday, June 3, as crews begin resurfacing the road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

Flaggers will control traffic throughout the project, which is scheduled to continue through early September, weather permitting.

Traffic on Highway 16 also will use two short-term detours beginning Monday, June 3, while crews replace culverts. The detours will be in effect for about two months, weather permitting.

Detour route:

• Highway 63

• Fillmore County Road 12

Detour route:

• Fillmore County Road 5

• Highway 80

• Highway 52

When the project is complete, motorists will experience a smoother ride surface and a safer highway with new guardrail and pedestrian accessibility improvements.

Dunn Blacktop Co., a division of Mathy Construction, is the prime contractor for the $5.2 million project.

MnDOT urges motorists to always drive with caution, slow down in work zones and never enter a road blocked with barriers or cones.
