The second annual Norwegian Ridge Language Camp hosted by the Giants of the Earth Heritage Center in Spring Grove is pleased to announce that Ethan Bjelland will be heading up their curriculum team this year.
Bjelland graduated from Gustavus at St. Peter with a major in Scandinavian Studies and theatre. For 16 years, he was affiliated with Concordia Language Villages near Bemidji, the most extensive language and culture immersion camp in the United States, as a student and staff member.
He began studying Norwegian at age 6 through immersion. He has worked at Skogfjorden as a counselor. He continued taking formal Norwegian with Prof. Kathleen Stokker at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, and now teaches and tutors younger students.
Bjelland has acquired an understanding of various Norwegian dialects, including a working understanding of Nynorsk, Bokmål and Riksmål, and a strong grasp on Danish.
Bjelland will be employed to advise and interact directly with Giant's lead instructors Kathrine Myrah and Rachel Storlie to further develop curriculum for Norwegian Ridge Language Camp before the 2013 season.
There will be three levels of students this year, and the curriculum will be tailored for immersion learning for all 4 to 7 year olds, 8 to 12 year olds and the upper level class, which has no age limit.
This year's programs will be offered June 10-14 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for 4-7 year olds and June 17-21 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. for 8 year olds through adult.
The camps' registration deadline is May 27. For more info go to www.norwegianridge.org.
