Robert C. Johnson and James Wilhelmson were recognized for 60 years of continuous membership with American Legion Post #249 of Spring Grove. Post Commander Dean Johnson made the presentation during the July 22 post meeting.

Two others, who were not in attendance at the meeting, were acknowledged as well. They are Allan Burtness and Leland Wenig.

Signed by the National Commander on March 15, 2013, the certificate is issued in grateful appreciation for faithful and dedicated allegiance to the ideals of the American Legion.

Such a record of consistent loyalty to the American Legion merits the honor of being cited as an outstanding contributor to its programs.

Johnson, who currently resides in La Crescent, was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952 and served two years as a helicopter mechanic/airborne electronics technician. Sgt. Johnson was also in the Ready Reserves until January of 1960.

Wilhelmson of Spring Grove served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954. Corporal Wilhelmson was a wheeled vehicle mechanic, was sent to Germany and stationed at Kaiserslautern.

Leland Wenig, who currently lives in Berlin, Wis., served in the Infantry Division of the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. The PFC served 15 months in Germany.

The certificate for Allan Burtness, who passed away March 9, 2012, was presented to his brother, Howard. Allan was a PFC in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 and had served in Korea.
