The Minnesota Association of Farm Mutual Insurance Companies' (MAFMIC) annual convention was held Feb. 3-5 in the Twin Cities with a total of 410 attending, representing 63 of the association's companies.

MAFMIC member-owned companies have provided service to rural Minnesota for 150 years and insure approximately two-thirds of the state's rural properties.

On Feb. 4, five busloads of constituents visited lawmakers at the Minnesota State Capitol. The delegates filled a large conference room to hear from Sen. LeRoy Stumpf, Rep. Joe Atkins, Senate Minority Leader David Hann and House Minority Leader Curt Daudt speak.

Afterwards, delegates met with their respective district lawmakers for updates and discussion about current and upcoming legislation.

Though MAFMIC has no proposed legislation for the 2013 Minnesota Legislature, the state association's major focus this year is to stop all harmful legislation.

Chairman of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) Jerry Zenke of Dakota, Minn., and President and CEO of NAMIC Chuck Chamness of Indianapolis, Ind., joined a group of residents from District 28 that represented Bloomfield Mutual, Mound Prairie Mutual, Southeast Mutual and Wilmington Mutual insurance companies. The group met with Senator Jeremy Miller and Representative Greg Davids.

Those attending included: Nancy and Dennis Forsyth and LeRoy Kohlmeyer all of Caledonia, Brian Bernard of Chatfield, Harold Meyer of Eitzen, Vicki Hungerholt of Houston, Larry Graf of La Crescent, Dennis Overland of Rushford Village, Jan Lee and Gary Buxengard of Spring Grove and John Deatsch, Terry Klomps, Larry Webb and Larry Mathison all of Spring Valley.
