With a donation of $1,000 and serving as a place where people can buy luminaries in honor and memory of loved ones who have fought cancer, Merchants Bank's locations in La Crescent, Caledonia and Spring Grove are helping to support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
"Everyone has been touched in some form by cancer. In our small way, we're doing what we can to remember those individuals and families who have fought against this devastating disease," said Laryssa Hanson, who is coordinating the effort in Caledonia and Spring Grove. Fellow Merchants Bank employee Martha Meyer is coordinating the effort in La Crescent.
Luminaries in "honor" or "memory" of someone who has had cancer are for sale for $10 each. Those luminaries will be displayed during the Relay for Life event on Aug. 2 in Spring Grove.
"Footprints" to show the support for the event are for sale for $1 each and will be displayed at the respective banks.
"Stars" in honor of a cancer survivor and "Moons" in memory of someone who passed away, are also available for $1 each.
