Sometimes it's good to shake things up a bit. The Spring Grove Commercial Club (SGCC) has decided to do just that, moving their next meeting to an evening time frame. On Jan. 20, the group will convene at 5:30 p.m. at Norski's Saloon.

In recent years, the SGCC has met at noon on the third Tuesday of each month. But that's been a difficult time for many to fit into their schedules.

"Commercial Club has been going forever," member Lorilyn Dehning said. "We plan to discuss changing the meetings to coincide with other gatherings...it's so we can get more people involved."

Members can eat following their afternoon session, then stick around for the Spring Grove Lions Club meeting at 7 p.m. at the same location.

"You don't have to be a business owner to attend," Dehning said. "Anybody can join."

SGCC is currently without an acting president. The organization sponsors Festival of Trees, Music in the Park, Summer Recreation, Christmas in the Village, and more.

Dehning serves as charitable gambling manager. In 2013, the group totaled $29,808 in charitable donations.

Beneficiaries from that fund are many. They include the Houston County Food Shelf, Houston County Care and Share, Dollars for Scholars, numerous programs for Spring Grove Public Schools (including Smart Boards for classrooms), ABC, ABLE, and more, totaling nearly three-dozen programs and organizations.

"We hope this new time will accommodate more business owners to be involved in our group and coordinate with the Lions Club to share in the work of supporting local causes," member Jacqui Van Minsel said. "Many options have been discussed as to where to go next with commercial club. There is a real chance that Commercial Club will cease to be if we don't get more active members on board. Please, be there on Monday with ideas and a willingness to work. Spring Grove Commercial Club needs you."
