As temperatures begin to warm and tease of the summer that awaits the area, preparations for opening the Spring Grove SWIM Center have also begun. The SWIM Center will officially open at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4. This first week of operation (June 4, 5, 6) it will be open from 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. The regular hours will begin on Saturday, June 7, when it will be open from 1 p.m. through 7 p.m.

"We are excited to have new weekend hours this year," remarked Lorilyn Dehning, Spring Grove City Council member and pool volunteer liaison. "In the recent past we were open on weekends from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Now we will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. This will allow families more time together and not have to rush out."

Beginning June 9, the SWIM Center will start its regular hours of Mondays through Fridays 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays 1 to 7 p.m. On July 4 it will be open just 1 to 5 p.m. The pool will close for the season on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m.

The SWIM Center is offering seven levels of private and group swimming lessons as well as lifeguard and WSI classes. The first session of swimming lessons begins June 9. Dehning said that there is still room in sessions throughout the season. To register for lessons, stop by the pool after May 27, from 1 p.m. through 5 p.m. as there will be staff there prepping the pool for the season. Swimming lessons are $40 for a group lesson and $55 for a private lesson.

Specials and other activities

Tuesdays at the SWIM Center will be $2 Tuesdays - everyone gets in for $2 for the day. Planning for a Big Splash end-of-the-year party is also in the works - watch for details on the date and time.

Water aerobics will also be offered again this year. One free class is being held on June 4 from 6 p.m. through 7 p.m. to give people a chance to try it out and see what water aerobics is all about. There will be two two-week sessions for $40 per session. The first session will run June 9 to 20 at 6 to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The class will be taught by Winneshiek Medical Center Rehab & Sports Medicine - Spring Grove Clinic.

Delicious concessions will once again be offered in the Snack Shack during pool hours.

"New this year is that the concessions will be open through the supper hour so parents and kids that are doing lessons can grab something," added Dehning.

Enjoy a summer of swimming fun and purchase a family pass. SWIM Center family passes can be purchased through May 31 for the Early Bird price of $150. They will be $200 after that. Individual passes are $75, punch cards (10 punches) are $40, and daily admission is $4. Seniors, age 62 and above, and children, age 2 and under, receive free entrance to the SWIM Center.
