This year's World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis., was Oct. 2 - 5. The Milking Shorthorn Show and Brown Swiss heifer show was Oct. 3. Kelsey Ristau of Preston had animals in the show as well as Matt and Myriah Klug of Spring Grove and Les and Jo Olson of Spring Valley.
Diane and Mark Fjelstad of Fjel-Mar Dairy in Zumbro Falls showed five Brown Swiss heifers plus one Brown Swiss cow that they own in partnership with the Klugs and the Olsons. The Klugs also showed a Brown Swiss heifer.
The Fjelstads have shown for seven years at World Dairy Expo according to an article in last week's AgriNews.
"We put our group together at the Minnesota State Fair every year," Mark Fjelstad said. "We all work together."
The Fjelstads showed cattle at the Southeast Minnesota Canton 1 Qualifying Show at the Olmsted County Fair in Rochester in addition to the Minnesota State Fair before coming to World Dairy Expo.
Fjelstad sees World Dairy Expo the "Super Bowl" of cattle showing.
The Fjelstads' junior three-year-old finished in sixth place two years ago, which was their highest place. This year, Sable, a spring heifer, finished seventh.
Katrina, the senior three-year-old cow that they own with Olsons and Klugs, finished fourth.
