ABC's "Hittin' the Sand for Woodland" is a bike (motorcycle), boat or car cruise around the Houston County area that is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 10.
There is still time to register by contacting ABC Works at its La Crescent location (507) 895-7161, Caledonia location (507) 725-2057 or contact Woodland Industries in Caledonia at (507) 725-2092.
Deb Schulte, one of the cruise coordinators and ABC Works employee said in an earlier interview, "You don't need any fancy or old car to participate; anyone can cruise along with us! It's just a lot of fun to cruise the countryside and even nicer when it's for a good cause."
This year's cruise path on land includes (in order): Good Times restaurant in Caledonia to Knotty Pine tavern in Dorchester, Iowa, to the Borderline bar in Eitzen to The Alley Cat bar in New Albin, Iowa, and the Shellhorn bar in Brownsville.
The cruise path for boats includes (in no particular order): Lawrence Lake Marina near Brownsville to these La Crosse area stops of Pettibone Boat Club, River Jacks, Nutbush City Limits, River Rats, Huck Finns, Top of the Rock, and Tom Sawyers.
If a "cruiser" gets their card punched at five or more of these businesses, they can register to win a $100 cash prize.
The day of cruisin' will end with supper at Wildcat Park. All cruisers are requested to be at Shelter No. 1 at Wildcat Park by 6 p.m. to turn in their punch card. Supper and an auction will also begin about 6 p.m.
If someone was not able to participate in the cruise, but would still like to be a part of the event, they are welcome to purchase a meal and attend the auction at Wildcat Park.
This is the third year for the cruise. A volleyball tournament will also be held that day as well as a live auction. All money raised stays in Houston County to support the two ABC Works locations as well as Woodland Industries.
The registration fee is $15/person prior to the event or $20/person the day of the event. It includes a supper ticket, a T-shirt (supplies may be limited for late registrations) and a punch card.
