Carol E. Hamersma, 66, of Spring Valley, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield.

She was born April 14, 1947, in Spring Valley to Albert and Ella (Jensen) Musel. She was the youngest daughter of 12 siblings.

She attended and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1964.

She was united in marriage to Wallace "Butch" M. Hamersma on May 8, 1971, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley.

Carol worked for many years at Community Memorial Hospital in Spring Valley and later for Rochester Medical where she retired in 2013.

Carol was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and its altar society. She enjoyed playing bingo and going on long walks.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace "Butch" Hamersma of Spring Valley; two sons, MJ Hamersma and Aaron (Karla) Hamersma, both of Spring Valley; six grandchildren, Jasper, Kailynn, Brandon, Colt, Kelby and Lexie; six siblings, Mary Jones of Nampa, Idaho, Marjorie Halverson of Cohasset, Minn., Raymond (Betty) Musel of Albert Lea, Ruth Frieburg of LeRoy, Jim (Norma) Musel of Faribault, and Joe (Linda) Musel of Hawick, Minn., and many nieces and nephews.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Mass was held Friday, April 4, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Marreddy Pothireddy officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Etna Cemetery in rural Fillmore County.
