Cloy Kneeskern, 84,grandfather of Wykoff resident

Cloy D. Kneeskern, 84, of Preston, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born July 22, 1929, in Castalia, Iowa, to Elsie (Schultz) and Dean Kneeskern.
He attended schools in Frankville, Luana and Calmar, Iowa, before moving to Preston where he graduated from high school. He attended Luther College for two years.
He was married on Oct. 14, 1950, to Laurice Peterson at Grace Lutheran Church in Preston.
He began working for the Hormel Company in Austin in 1949. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps beginning in 1951. He was stationed in New Jersey and Germany until 1953. Upon his return, he continued working for Hormel in Austin, Denison, Iowa, and Audubon, Iowa, as a hog buyer until his retirement in 1976. During his years in Audubon, Cloy's work also included hog farming and restaurant management.
After retirement in 1991, he and his wife enjoyed many travels within the United States and abroad, sharing that time with their many friends and family members. Sports were an important part of his life. He participated in basketball, football and his specialty, baseball in high school. He continued playing baseball for the Preston town team after high school. His true passions were playing golf and St. Louis Cardinals baseball, which he enthusiastically shared with others.
He is survived by his wife, Laurice; children, Gary of Preston, Sheri (Pat Dunnigan) of Bellingham, Wash., Dave (Carol) of Greenfield, Iowa, Sandra (Mike) Welch of Chicago, Ill., Beth of Des Moines, Iowa and Mark (Shannon) of Terlingua, Texas; grandchildren, Trista (Adam) Rowland of Wykoff, Tommy Welch of Chicago, Ill., Katie Welch of Chicago, Ill., Annie Kneeskern of Boseman, Mont.; great-grandchildren, McKenzie and Carson Rowland of Wykoff; sister, JoAnn Miller of Preston and Wayne Kneeskern of Richland, Iowa.
He is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Lyle Miller and sister-in-law, Gert Kneeskern.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston. Visitation will be held Friday, June 13, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and an hour before the service on Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Preston.
At his request, his body has been donated to Mayo Clinic.
