Curtis R. Andersen, 76 of Eyota, Minn., died Oct. 19, 2012, after a nine-month battle with lymphoma.
Curtis was the son of Roy and Josephine (Kline) Andersen, born on Dec. 9, 1935, in Faribault, Minn. During his boyhood, he grew up on four different dairy and hog farms. He attended three county schools and graduated from Faribault High School. In high school he enjoyed horses, FFA, and playing the accordion.
In 1955, he joined the 135th Army Stand by Reserve and served seven years. In 1956, he met Florence Crandall and they married on April 12, 1958, in Austin, Minn. Curt was employed by IBM in Rochester, Minn., from 1957 to 1987 where he retired as a senior repair technician. He also worked to receive his boilers license and was employed by the Dover-Eyota School District for nine years.
Curt was a current member of Grace Community Church in Eyota. He was a strong man of faith who honored our Lord and was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout the years he served as a church deacon, trustee, usher, and greeter. He enjoyed spending time horseback riding and camping with his family and friends. He competed in reining through the National Reining Horse Association. He volunteered with the Fillmore County 4-H Horse Program and with the MN Jr. Purebred Heifer Classic Program. Curt enjoyed playing his accordion and sharing his music with others.
Survivors include his wife Florence of Eyota; his three daughters, Pam (Doug) DeJarnette of Tea, S.D., Jayne LoveJoy of Stewartville, Minn., and Cindy (John) Ostrowski of Dover, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Michelle and James DeJarnette, Charles, Jessica, and Stephenie Erickson and Mattie Jo and Megan Ostrowski; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Trenton, Tyrone and Izabella Erickson; three brothers, Earle of High Forest, Minn., Gary of Morristown, Minn., and Phillip (Nancy) of Las Vegas, Nev., and one sister, Elaine (Arleigh) Anderson of Rochester.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Evelyn Larson and Lillas Orr.
The funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Grace Community Church in Eyota with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial was at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
The Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Eyota were in charge of the arrangements.
