Darlene Esther Meyer, 86, of Spring Valley, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 3, 2013, of Alzheimer's at her home with her family at her side while under Mayo Hospice.

She was born May 22, 1927, in Fillmore County, the daughter of Glen and Alvina (Henke) Copeman. She attended and was a 1945 graduate of Wykoff High School. She married Marvin "Buddy" Meyer June 22, 1947, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wykoff. Following their marriage, they made their home on the Meyer family farm in Forestville Township. Together they dairy farmed and worked the land for 46 years before moving to Spring Valley in 1993. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage together.

Mrs. Meyer enjoyed cooking, playing cards, dancing, and camping with their Hiawatha Valley camp group. She was well known for her gracious entertaining, as she always had enough food for all. Most of all, she loved family gatherings and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband; five children, Marsha (Roger) Winch of Stewartville, Dennis (Carolyn) Meyer of Wykoff, Lynette (Thomas) Ramaker of Spring Valley, Nancy (Randel) Christopherson of Austin and Douglas (Kim) Meyer of Stewartville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Jerry (Sharon) Copeman of Rochester.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Delone (Elmer) Schmidt and Shirley (Stanley) Christopherson; and one infant brother.

Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 7, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert V. Stohlmann officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The family prefers memorials to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, St. John's Lutheran School or Mayo's Alzheimer research.

Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
