Elizabeth 'Bette' Sagedal, 85, mother of SV woman

Elizabeth "Bette" (Gale) Sagedal, the mother of a Spring Valley woman, died July 29, 2013, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Hospital after a brief illness.
Elizabeth Joan "Bette", the daughter of Peter Vincent and Helen Mary (Smith) Gale, was born May 30, 1928, in Faribault, Minn., where she lived all of her life. She attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and graduated from Bethlehem Academy with the class of 1946. She married Manuel "Manny" Sagedal on March 24, 1952, at the Immaculate Conception Church.
Mr. Sagedal played baseball for the Faribault Lakers, a New York Yankee development team, then worked for Nutting Truck and Castor Co., Investors Diversified Services, KDHL, and the Wilson Center. Mrs. Sagedal worked for The Beltz Co. before many years of employment at Ochs's Department Store. At Och's she was a hosiery buyer, sales associate and bridal consultant and buyer. She also worked at the FATE Center and Faribault Public Schools, working with children with special needs. She was a very loving person and opened her home to those who were in need. She also worked part time at HyVee and the Lavender Inn. She was a die-hard Twins and Yankees fan and adored her family, taking great pride in all their accomplishments.
She is survived by her four children, Sharanne (Anthony) Calabrese of Spring Valley, Tod Sagedal of Faribault, Heidi (Benito) Rivera of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., and Kip Sagedal of Burnsville, Minn.; grandchildren, Jacob Sagedal, Nicole (Adam) Harringa, Emanuel Rivera, Carl M. Calabrese, Dylan Sagedal and Mikala Sagedal; sister, Patricia (John) Dudley of Northfield; sister-in-law, Betty Gale of Aurora, Colo.; cousin, Rilla (Donald) O'Neil of Faribault; nieces, nephews, and close personal friends, Patrica (Anderson) Rothstein, Kelly (Bartko) Raske, and Michael Ahern.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Manny on June 22, 1991; parents; brothers, Gene Gale and Maurice (Eileen) Gale; and infant sister, Marilyn.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home & Crematory of Faribault with Bernadette Tatge, pastoral minister of Divine Mercy Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery in Faribault at a later date.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
