Ethel Olson, 95, of Spring Valley, died Dec. 19, 2013, at the Ostrander Care and Rehab.

Ethel Emma Sophie Niemeyer was born Feb. 7, 1918, to Louis and Rose (Wedeking) Niemeyer in Jordan Township. She was a 1936 graduate of Wykoff High School. On June 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to Norman Olson in Rockford, Ill. She worked many years at Stickan's Ben Franklin. Mrs. Olson was a lifelong member and the oldest member of the First English Lutheran Church in Spring Valley, and she was also active on the L.W.M.L. Delivering Meals on Wheels, playing cards, mowing lawns and traveling were some of her favorite pastimes. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Vince (Linda) Olson and Diane (Garry) TerMaat, both of Spring Valley; four grandchildren, Tim (Tammy) Olson of Spring Valley, Tomi Kay (Dan) Best of Apex, N.C., Wayne TerMaat of Spring Valley and Trever TerMaat of Spring Valley; three great-grandchildren, Connor Best, Tyler (fiancé Jenee Jarvis) Olson and Kayla Olson, and one great-great grandchild, Landon.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Norman in 1994, one brother and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at the First English Lutheran Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. Loel Wessel officiating. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery, Fillmore County. Friends may call at the church from 9 a.m. until time of service.
