Gary Lee Biel, 56, of Seattle, Wash., died after a short battle with cancer on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at his home.

He was born Oct. 6, 1955, in Cresco, Iowa, to Russell and Martha (Lietz) Biel. He went to school in Harmony and was baptized at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Granger.

He enjoyed drawing and his artwork in earlier years. He liked watching all types of sports on TV, especially NFL football. He was a good welder and worked at Boeing Airlines in Seattle. He enjoyed reading books regarding nature and the environment.

Survivors include his mother, Martha Biel of Spring Valley; one sister, Karen Biel of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; two brothers, Paul (Suellen) Biel of Fountain, N.C., and Robert (Eunice) Biel of Harmony; two nieces, Elizabeth Biel of Lanesboro and Jessica Biel of Wilmington, N.C.; and one nephew, Kevin (Kelly) Biel of Harmony.

His father, Russell Biel, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 7, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Granger, with the Rev. Kyle Jackson officiating. Internment will be in St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery.

The family prefers memorials to be given to the St. Matthew Lutheran Cemetery.
