Harry Earl Broten, 76, of Spring Valley, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 8, 1936, in Rochester, to Walter and Esther Broten. On Nov. 1, 1958, he married Eileen Born in Salinas, Calif. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1961. He worked on various construction jobs around Rochester and in his later years farmed near Spring Valley.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife.

Survivors include his wife, Eileen, of Spring Valley and one brother, Walter Broten Jr. of Waterloo, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Julie, Dorothy and Joyce, and two brothers, Stan and Dick.

The funeral was Monday, Dec. 10, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester, with the Rev. Lester J. Horntvedt officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens, with military honors provided by the VFW and American Legion Post 92.
