James "Jim" Costello, 95, of Spring Valley, died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, spending his last few days with his family and the caring people at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford.

He was born March 24, 1918, in Galena, Ill. After serving in World War II, he came home to Spring Valley. On Nov. 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Anita "Jean" Riehl at the parsonage next to the Baptist Church in Spring Valley. Many remember him working at his gas station until retiring in 1980. After retiring, he enjoyed his time doing woodworking and spending time with family. He also spent much time with his friends at Faith United Methodist Church.

He is survived by five children, Beverly Weltzin of Portage, Ind., Barbara (Jerry) Bush of Spring Valley, Betty (Dan) Long of Valparaiso, Ind., James (Nancy) Costello, Jr., of Stewartville, and Brenda (Steven Gerard) Churchill of Rushford; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Costello, of Moorhead, Minn.; and one sister, Anna Mae Christianson, of LeRoy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother, Ralph Harper, and one sister, Lois Reichart.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley with the Revs. Dave Leider and Beth Perez officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Fillmore County Veterans Cemetery in Preston.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
