Kenneth D. Barcel, D.C., 81, of Spring Valley, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at his home after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Minneapolis May 22, 1931, the only child of William and Viola Barcel. He served in the US Air Force from 1952 to1955 in Korea. He attended Northwestern Chiropractic College and married Florence Thorne June 28, 1957. Upon completion of college, he practiced in Winona, and then moved to Spring Valley in the fall of 1968 where he cared for people for 40 years.

Dr. Barcel loved the Lord Jesus Christ with his whole heart and his life exemplified it. He was an active member of Valley Christian Center as a teacher, youth leader and deacon, served many years in the Gideon's distributing the Bible and the message of Christ, and helped form the Full Gospel Businessmen's Association.

Mr. Barcel also known as Doc, was active in sports all his life, enjoying baseball and basketball in youth, then tennis and golf, and medaled in the state and national Senior Olympics.

Survivors include his wife, Florence; five children and their spouses, Brenda and David Palmer, Brett and Stephanie Barcel, Wendy and Dennis Shaw, Lisa and Andy Snyder, and Debra and Timothy Aldrich; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was at Valley Christian Center, Spring Valley, Monday, April 8, with the Rev. Steve Kuno officiating and burial in the Spring Valley Cemetery.

Thauwald Funeral Home in Spring Valley assisted the family with arrangements.
