Lenora Anne Bly Schmidt, 90, died Aug. 9, 2013, at Spring Valley Senior Living Care Center in Spring Valley.

On Sept. 16, 1922, she was born to Bert T. and Etta Rose (Krieger) Bly at the family home on Washington Street in Spring Valley. She met and married her sweetheart, Louis K. Schmidt, and raised her children where she was most "at home" in Spring Valley. It was important to her that her children each graduated from the same high school as she, Spring Valley High School.

After she and her sweetheart retired from FMC Northern Ordnance in Fridley, Minn., in 1986 they enjoyed living on Lake Mary in Howard Lake, Minn., where they fished and entertained their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren before returning to Spring Valley in 1999.They then spent their winters in sunny Tucson, Ariz., where they picked oranges and grapefruit from their own trees and made many new friends.

Purple ribbons from the fair would have adorned her walls had she entered her delicious gooey caramel rolls, breads, jams and jellies, garden vegetables, crocheting, crafts and beautiful woven rag rugs. Many of these skills she taught her five children, seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Her surviving children are: Sharon (Bob) Hileman; Teri (Wayne) Allen of Howard Lake, Minn.; Larry (Melissa) Schmidt of Spring Valley; Barbara (Gary) Fratzke of Winona, and Rick (Kay) Schmidt of Spring Valley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday Aug. 13, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. David Lieder officiating. Burial was in the Spring Valley Cemetery.

Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley was in charge of arrangements.
