Lucille Serfling, 90, of Spring Valley died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.

Lucille Serfling was born May 30, 1922, near Granger, Minn., to Henrey and Bessie (Hebrink) Klomps. She attended Dog Town School District 118 through the sixth grade and District 99 through the eighth grade. Lucille met her husband while helping out at her oldest sister's home. Lucille married Emmett Serfling on Sept. 25, 1940, by her uncle the Rev. Dick Nagle at the parsonage in Hammond, Minn., where he was pastor.

Lucille loved music; she could hear a new song and go home and play it on piano. She also played several other instruments for her enjoyment. She loved to piece quilts, crocheting, knitting and crafts. She liked gardening, canning, cooking, baking and flowers. She was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. Lucille was baptized at the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church. She became a member in 1940 and has been a member ever since.

She is survived by two children, Richard (Cheryl) Serfling of Preston, Minn., and Charlotte (Vern) Stryker of Prinsburg, Minn.; six grandchildren, Lori (Art) Scheevel, Nathan (Jolene) Serfling, Vicki Serfling, Dalen (Jamie) Stryker, Julie (Shannon) Childrey and Jolene (Vince) Shriver; 10 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Emmett on Aug. 3, 1999, one grandson in infancy, two brothers and their wives, and five sisters and their husbands, and all of Emmett's siblings and spouses. She was the last of that generation.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 23, at the Cherry Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beth Perez and the Rev. Mark Rader officiating. Burial was in the Cherry Grove Cemetery.
