Marie Peterson, 102, of Grand Meadow, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Meadow Manor in Grand Meadow.

Marie Mathilda Jones was born July 31, 1911, daughter of Curtis and Margaret (Hanson) Jones in McIntire, Iowa.

She graduated from LeRoy High School in LeRoy.

On July 31, 1933, she married Carl Peterson. They settled in Grand Meadow. She was a clerk in the Grand Meadow Post Office for many years, often working with her husband.

She enjoyed her family, playing cards, making lefse and gardening. She also made many quilts over the years - one for each of her boys and their children, as well as many quilt tops for the church to finish and donate to those in need.

She was a member of Grand Meadow Lutheran Church and had been active in Bible study and Sunday school before moving to assisted living.

She is survived by two of her sons, Charles (domestic partner, Patrick Ward), and Glenn (Kathy) Peterson; daughters-in-law, Delores Peterson and Joan Peterson; grandchildren, Jeff Peterson, Deb Peterson, Dan Peterson, David Peterson, Karen Watrous, Julie Moldoven, Scott Peterson and Michelle Chewning as well as many great- and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 2003, her middle son, Robert in 2013, as well as her siblings, Emma, Margaret, Wilbur "Web" and Edward "Bus."

Funeral services and burial will be at a later date so the rest of her family can attend.
