Matthew Allen Scrabeck, 26, of Grand Meadow, died Aug. 24, 2013, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester of injuries suffered in a car accident Aug. 17 near Chester, Iowa.

He was born Dec. 2, 1986, in Rochester and was raised in Grand Meadow, graduating from Grand Meadow High School in 2005. He completed two years at Riverland Community College in Austin, studying forestry. He was presently employed at McNeilus in Dodge Center.

He enjoyed deer hunting, bow hunting, fishing, wood working, golfing, and reball. He loved martial arts and taught martial arts classes. He also enjoyed time with family and friends. Matthew was a member of AA and attained 4 1/2 years of sobriety.

He is survived by his mother, Sherrie Scrabeck; stepdad, Kevin Queensland; sister, Beth Hammon; niece and nephews Addison and Matthew Hammon and Bryson Horsman; special aunt Donna Guy; and close friend James Greenwood, who Matthew considered a brother to all of Grand Meadow. He is also survived by his grandparents, Dan and Nancy Scrabeck of Elkton, and stepgrandmother, Audrey Queensland of Grand Meadow, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Scrabeck, in 1987 and grandparents Ed and Dolores Guy.

Being a kind and generous man, it was Matthew's wish to be an organ donor. His wish was honored.

Memorial services were held Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the Grand Meadow Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow with the Rev. Jim Scaife officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the family.
